ABW Ministries
American Baptist Women is an organization open to the needs of women.
We focus on ministry, and each woman may participate according to her
gifts as she is lead by the Spirit of God.
In commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to the mission
of the church, and through the enabling of the Holy Spirit,
American Baptist Women's Ministries provides opportunities for each
woman and girl to:
- become and develop as God's person, deepening her faith,
developing her gifts, and becoming a more effective Christian
disciple and steward.
- build God's faith community, developing relationships, and
meeting the physical and spiritual needs of others in their
homes and their communities.
- serve God's world by participating in American Baptist
mission outreach and meeting the physical and spiritual needs
of others in our nation and in God's world.

The Love Gift
During the Depression, both families and churches often struggled
to make ends meet. In 1932, the American Baptist Church had
a deficit of a half a million dollars. During an era when
few women worked outside the home, American Baptist
women set aside their pocket change to be donated to the
denomination. Collectively, these 'love gifts' were
significant enough to help sustain the denomination during
the Depression.
When ABW began, 50 years ago, it took over the collection of the
Love Gift, which is used to fund overseas and home missions,
education and publications, social ministries, ecumenical
relations, World Relief, and other assistance. Many ABW members
add to the Love Gift box that they have at home to thank God
for gifts to their lives. The success of the Love Gift shows that
each woman's gift is never too insignificant, with God's help,
to help others and to help our world.

"Each one of us can grow personally in our walk with Christ -
in opportunities to grow spiritually and in leadership
opportunities - as we serve in our church and in our
community. ABW is an opportunity to develop friendships
as we share our faith inside and outside the church."
